Hugh McManners Band logo

Formed in May 2007, based in Oxford

Description:

A surge of the old faves. Quite a lot people sing along, and the fit ones dance. Plus some of our own stuff, and lots of musical diversification into unknown territory 'cos the drummer looks like Harry Potter.

History:

Hugh suggested that Will, a classical violinist, should be able to play drums, and as this made people dance, the band got itself a coupla pub gigs and never looked back. Chris Mongo Shaker takes care of the bottom end.

Influences:

Surfing Brides, Danko Jones, JJ Cale, Chuck Berry, Howling Wolf, Robert Johnson, Messrs Clapton, Hendrix, Page, Green, Weller, Harrison, Kossoff, Cawte and Gallagher; John Mayall, Lee Ryder, Aynsley Lister, Jez Coad, Uncle Keef obviously and everyone who knows us. Other favoured things include ambivalence, diversity and audiences who dance; sustain with feedback and the smell of 1960's valve technology, Mediterranean and Indian cooking, playing live and as with reincarnation, making it different every time.

Members:

Gary Gibson 334, Fender Statocaster and an AC30, TAMA Starclassic drums with stacks of bottom from Harry Hartke.
